Our History

Abraham Lincoln School
From 1921 until 1959 our building was named Abraham Lincoln School and was attended only by African American children. In 1959, the building was closed.

James Whitcomb Riley School
Due to McKeen School being closed, Abraham Lincoln School was remodeled and re-opened on February 12, 1960. Our building would be called James Whitcomb Riley school. The children, from redistricting and consolidating, would attend this school.

Benjamin Franklin Elementary School
August 1960, the School Board decided to rename our school to its current name, Benjamin Franklin Elementary. In the spring of 2003, the school began breaking ground to build our brand-new building. The building was finished in 2004.
Consolidation
Once again at this school site, Benjamin Franklin Elementary will be home to a consolidation. Many Deming Elementary students will join Benjamin Franklin Elementary in the fall of the 2021-2022 school year. Benjamin Franklin Elementary has a rich history of valuing education for all children.
